After the restoration and remodelling works, the building resumes its activities as a House of Culture.

A temporary exhibition hall and the Tourist Information Office are located on the ground floor, where you can download the mobile application for the route El Masnou terra de mar.

The first floor is an exhibition hall showcasing the most notable works from the municipal art collection, the majority from a donation made by Emili Josep Sala Barbarà in 1969.

You also are able to gaze upon the exuberant modernist decoration of the murals that adorn the walls and ceilings, the glazed ceramic wall tiles and traditional hydraulic (hydraulically pressed cement) floor tiles, and a lovely collection of period furniture.

The current House of Culture was the summer residence of the married couple Jaume Sensat i Sanjuan and Rosa Pagès i Orta. The building was remodelled in 1900 and 1901 following the design of master builder Pere Andreu, which reflects the owner’s taste in Islamic architecture, as he had spent two years in Egypt.

In 1964 Maria del Carme Planas i Sensat inherited the home after the death of the couple, who had no offspring. She left it to the Town Council in her will, with the condition that it was used for cultural purposes.
