On lands that once belonged to Teià, over the course of the 17th and 18th centuries a population hub started to grow around the tower where the Church of Sant Pere stands today.
Inhabitants found it impossible to regularly attend mass due to the distance of the Parish Church of Sant Martí from Teià. This led 160 heads of family to meet in the Francesc Mora Inn in 1769 to request the bishop permission to build a church. The fishermen and mareantes trade union contributed funds for building the first church, which was consecrated in 1783, on the day of their patron saint, Sant Pere. With the approval of King Ferran VII and the approval of ecclesiastical authorities, they were finally awarded status as their own parish, independent from the Church of Sant Martí in Teià (1818).
The primitive building was designed by Miquel Garriga. Shortly after and due to a growing population, his son Pau Garriga i Matas expanded it, and it was finished in 1817.Years later, Miquel Garriga i Roca –grandson and son, respectively– created the high altar and the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament.
The church was burned down during the Spanish Civil War. It was later rebuilt, and was finished in the 1960s, when architect Marià Ribas constructed the two top structures of the belltower.
